METHOD OF USE

Please read these instruction carefully before use

NOTES for best results.

  • If the item to be treated with Silver Plater is dirty,  first clean off any loose dirt, grease or heavy tarnish, with Holland Hallmark Copper / Brass Cleaner, then wash in soapy, tepid water, rinse and dry.
  • if the item to be treated with Silver Plater is lacquered, then first completely remove the lacquer with a standard lacquer remover such as thinners or acetone. Do this in a well ventilated area and try not to use such things as coarse wire wool or sand paper. If absolutely necessary, very fine wire wool may be used, but it must be 'grade 0000'. Avoid this if you can. Before starting to remove the lacquer, test which method is most suitable, on the base of the object or any other part of the object which does not show.
  • Protect hands, clothing and work area etc. with plastic, against splashing and staining. Silver Plater is very safe and non-toxic to use, but will cause dark brown stains if no precaution is taken. So wear plastic gloves, plastic apron and protect the work surface with a plastic covering. Should your fingers still become stained, then use thick household bleach and a fine scouring pad to remove the stains. Or bathe your fingers in a bleach solution for several minutes.
  • Silver Plater will not fill in scratch marks or remove corrosion, otherwise it would also fill in engraving etc. If however the silver has worn off, for example in the middle of a tray and there is a cut mark in the middle as well, then Silver Plater will replace the silver and reduce the cut mark, but you will still see a faint scratch.
  • Silver Plater can be used on worn items with a base metal of copper (red), brass (yellow), bronze (brownish), alpaca (yellow / grey), German Silver (grey-ish) and of course on silver. Silver Plater will not silver plate glass, porcelain, plastic, wood, aluminum, chrome, iron or other non copper-based metals.

METHOD OF USE

  1. Protect hands clothing and work area against stains.
  2. Shake the bottle well before use.
  3. Pour a little liquid into a glass or other non-metal dish, this is to prevent contamination of the liquid in the bottle by dirty sponges or dirty cotton wool. Replace the cap on the bottle immediately in case of accidents.
  4. Apply the liquid liberally to the affected area, with a clean sponge, or PREFERABLY with a piece of balled up cotton wool. Only treat small areas at a time (say 10 cm square)
  5. Rub in firmly and thoroughly for 15 seconds, applying more liquid as required, until the object shows signs of silver plating. Keep the fluid moving whilst applying. First the object will turn dark (which is a good sign as it means that the silver is attaching itself to the base metal), then the object will become shiny silver, before your very eyes!
  6. Once you are satisfied with the silvering, immediately buff off. Now move on to the next area and repeat. Finally wash the whole item with warm soapy water, rinse, dry and then buff off.
  7. On chains, filigree and heavily ornamented items, you may use a soft clean brush to apply. Avoid splashing and thus staining. If possible wash the ornamented item with tepid, soapy water, then rinse and dry thoroughly. Buff off using a soft, clean cloth or even a soft, clean brush.
  8. Repeat the process if required, until the object is restored satisfactorily.

AFTERCARE
For initial aftercare, continue to use Silver Plater as above, as and when polishing is required, to increase the layer of silver you have just applied.

Never again use abrasive polishes. For economic and best long term maintenance of silver, use Holland Hallmark Silver Enhancer to polish your silver in the future. As Silver Enhancer also contains pure silver, it will therefore not wear away the silver, as do traditional polishes.

Regular use of Holland Hallmark Silver Enhancer will protect your silver forever !

TIP
Without proper protection of your hands, clothing and work area, these may become stained. To remove any stains, use a soft scouring pad with household bleach and water. You may have to repeat this a few times over the next few days.

GENERAL WARNING
As with any household cleaner, keep out of the reach of children. In case of contact with eyes or cuts, rinse well with plenty of clean, cold water. If swallowed consult a doctor.
