RESTORATION EXAMPLES

BEFORE

AFTER

This is a worn Sheffield Plate candlestick. Sheffield Plate is silver plate which was made by fusing a sheet of silver onto a slab of copper. Then it was rolled out to become a thin silver plated sheet. The silver plated sheet was then formed into an object.  But if the thin sheet of silver is polished enough with abrasive cleaners, the silver becomes worn and the copper will eventually show through. Especially on the high spots of the item where polishing has been most vigorous.

Holland Hallmark Silver Plater was used on this item three times, to completely restore the candlestick. Even the most severely worn areas have been restored to their former glory, without removing the patina from the object and therefore still keeping it's lovely antique look.

A silver plated pepper and saltcellar.  These items were once silver plated on a base metal of brass.
Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. After tender love and care with abrasive cleaners, hardly any silver was left on the items, there were just silver traces visible around the legs.

Holland Hallmark Silver Plater was used to restore the items. The picture above shows the results of 3 applications with Silver Plater. It has been restored back to almost new. Some pit marks or corrosion from salt cannot be restored. But, once again, it will now be able to take pride of place on the table.

BEFORE

AFTER

This beautiful, but very worn, silver plated tray was left in the cupboard by it's former owner because it just looked too terrible and too old to use ever again.

After the use of Silver Plater the tray is now back in use as a drinks tray and is proudly on display in the owner's living room. They had not thought they would ever use it again.

DETAIL VOOR

DETAIL AFTER

Before it was re-plated with Holland Hallmark Silver Plater. The worn places are clearly visible.  The red copper shines through as a tell-tale sign of it worn state. Especially on the top edge, where the silver is completely worn away.

After it was re-plated with Holland Hallmark Silver Plater. The worn places are now no longer visible, because the silver in the liquid of Silver Plater has attached itself to the copper molecules on the surface of the tray, which is now completely re-plated.
